Overview
The Minnesota Legislature established the Teachers Retirement Association in 1931 to provide retirement benefits for Minnesota’s public educators. Today, TRA administers a defined benefit pension plan for eligible teachers and education professionals, serving members throughout their careers and retirement. TRA has more than 200,000 members and benefit recipients in all.
The association is governed by a board of trustees that includes statutory appointees as well as individuals elected by TRA’s membership. The board operates under Minnesota law with a focus on long-term financial stewardship.
